What do Engineers do?

Engineers are in charge of designing the endless amount of products in the world. In addition to desinging new things, they are also responsible for fixing the items if they break. It takes a very special person to be able to go through college and graduate with an engineering degree. Every prospective engineer has to be creative and have the initiative to create great new things on a regular basis.

There are many disciplines of engineering and the University of Pittsburgh offers a a bunch of them as majors. Here are just a few of them:

  1. BioEngineering
  2. Chemical Engineering
  3. Civil Engineering
  4. Computer Engineering
  5. Electrical Engineering
  6. Mechanical Engineering

Computer Engineering

Computer Engineering is a combination of electrical engineering and computer science. It fuses the two into one over-arching curriculum. It gives the students the experience of working with the software side of computing as well as the hardware and eletrical component aspect.

A computer engineering degree does not limit a professional in any way whatsoever. Electrical engineering parallels computer engneering very closely and this opens up even more oppuritunities for a professional to do whatever he/she wants to do. Specifically within the computer engineering discipline, a professional has a multitude of different positions to choose from. These include, but are not limited to:

  1. Computer Software Engineer
  2. Computer Hardware Engineer
  3. Systems Engineer
  4. Network Engineer
  5. Integrated Circuits Engineer
